Bill Silliker Jr., the renowned photographer, shared his lifelong
appreciation of the natural world through his stunning wildlife photography.
During his career, he was instramental in the preservation of land that later
became part of the Rachel Carson Wildlife Refuge. He was the author of
numerous books featuring his photography and he also wrote many articles
about photographic technique. Notable among his many fine works is the
book entitled "Saving Maine" published in 2003. In his book, Mr. Silliker gives the inspiring accounts
of men and women who have endeavored to preserve Maine's wild heritage.
Mr. Silliker died in 2003, leaving behind his vast portfolio of photography which has been donated
(2008) to the A.E. Howell Wildlife Conservation Center along with the copyrights by his wife,
Maryellen. The proceeds from the sale of these items will be used for the care of the Center's
wildlife. We would like to thank Bill and Maryellen for the confidence this gift reflects on our
center.Through this generous donation, we will have additional resources to continue our work
while ensuring that the legacy of Bill Silliker Jr. will be enjoyed for many years to come.
Update: Thanks to a grant (2009) from the wonderful people at the Maine Community Foundation,
